Senior Electrical Engineer – Uganda
Location: Kampala, Uganda (Residential)
Contract: 12-Month Renewable
Rate: Day Rate
We are currently recruiting a Senior Electrical Engineer to join a major greenfield onshore oil & gas development in Uganda. This is a site-based rotational role (28 days on / 28 days off), supporting both project delivery and long-term operational readiness. The successful candidate will form part of the Maintenance team, reporting to the Electrical Lead Engineer, and will play a key role in preparing electrical systems for safe, efficient production operations.
Key Responsibilities
Project Phase
Review EPC and maintenance documentation to ensure operational readiness
Develop and validate maintenance strategies, plans, and procedures for electrical systems
Prepare complex site maintenance procedures aligned with industry best practice
Support operating spare parts selection, procurement, inspection, and storage
Participate in FATs/SATs and support commissioning and start-up activities
Develop digital tools to enhance maintenance management post start-up
Prepare technical scopes of work for specialist maintenance contracts
Operational Phase
Provide technical support and engineering guidance to site teams
Ensure electrical equipment is maintained in optimal working condition
Monitor equipment performance and implement condition-based maintenance strategies
Identify obsolescence risks and propose upgrades where required
Prepare vendor scopes of work and coordinate planned/unplanned maintenance activities
Monitor contractor performance, budgets, and maintenance KPIs
Contribute to maintenance planning and scheduling activities
Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with applicable standards
Mentor and provide continuous training to junior electrical engineers
Candidate Requirements
Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering
Minimum 8 years’ experience in electrical systems within oil & gas, including at least 2 years in an operational plant environment
Strong knowledge of international electrical codes and standards (NEC, IEC, ATEX, NORSOK, API, ASME, etc.)
Experience with CMMS systems (SAP, Maximo or similar)
Solid understanding of plant compliance, maintenance strategies, and equipment lifecycle management
Strong communication and stakeholder coordination skills
