Senior ICSS / Instrument Engineer – Uganda (Residential)
Location: Kampala, Uganda (Residential)
Contract: 12-Month Renewable
Rate: Day Rate
We are currently recruiting a Senior ICSS / Instrument Engineer to join a major onshore oil & gas development in Uganda. This is a residential role based in Kampala, supporting both project delivery and long-term operational readiness for instrumentation and control systems. Working within the Maintenance team and reporting to the Lead ICSS/Instrument Engineer, you will play a key role in preparing systems for start-up and ensuring ongoing operational reliability post-commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
Project Phase
Review EPC documentation to ensure readiness for maintenance and operations
Develop maintenance strategies, plans, and procedures for instrumentation and ICSS systems
Prepare and validate testing procedures for Safety Instrumented Functions (SIF)
Support spare parts selection, procurement, and warehouse readiness
Participate in FAT/SAT activities and support commissioning and start-up teams
Develop digital tools to support maintenance management post start-up
Contribute to industrial cybersecurity procedures
Prepare technical scopes of work for specialist maintenance contracts
Operational Phase
Provide technical support to site teams on instrumentation and control systems
Ensure optimal performance and reliability of ICSS and field instrumentation
Monitor equipment performance and implement condition-based maintenance strategies
Identify obsolescence risks and recommend upgrades
Coordinate vendor activities and manage maintenance contracts
Conduct technical investigations, troubleshooting, and performance analysis
Maintain accurate maintenance documentation and ensure compliance with standards
Support planning and scheduling of maintenance activities
Mentor and develop junior engineers within the team
Candidate Requirements
Degree in Instrumentation & Control Engineering or equivalent
Minimum 8 years’ experience in instrumentation and control systems within oil & gas
At least 2 years’ experience in an operational plant environment
Strong knowledge of ICSS, field instrumentation, and safety systems
Familiarity with CMMS systems (SAP, Maximo, etc.)
Knowledge of international standards (IEC, ATEX, NORSOK, API, etc.)
Understanding of industrial cybersecurity principles is advantageous
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
