Lead Contracts Engineer
Location: Kampala, Uganda (Residential)
Duration: 12-15 Month Contract
Working Schedule: Monday-Friday (5-Day Week)
Day Rate
We are supporting a major onshore energy development in East Africa and are looking for an experienced Lead Contracts Engineer to join the commercial team on a residential basis in Kampala. This is a senior-level role responsible for managing complex contractual and commercial activities across multiple high-value packages. Reporting to the Upstream Contracts Manager, you will oversee the full contract lifecycle-from award through to close-out-ensuring compliance, commercial integrity, and effective contractor management.
Key Responsibilities
Manage contractual and commercial activities across EPC, field operations, and service contracts
Ensure compliance with local regulations, agreements, and internal procedures
Draft and manage contractual correspondence with contractors
Support negotiation of change orders and contract amendments
Assist with claims management and dispute resolution
Review and validate key contractual documents (bonds, guarantees, insurance, invoices)
Support issuance of interim and final certificates
Build and maintain strong contractor and supplier relationships
Participate in stakeholder and partner meetings
Ensure alignment with HSE and ethical standards
Candidate Profile
Degree in Quantity Surveying, Law, Engineering, or Commercial discipline
15+ years' experience managing contracts on major oil & gas or infrastructure projects
Strong knowledge of contract management, negotiation, and commercial strategy
Experience with FIDIC contracts and construction scopes preferred
Solid understanding of project controls, legal, and insurance aspects
Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills
Experience in international and multicultural environments
Fluent in English
